This is a guest post.
The holidays are here, and for many that means that savings go out the windows. There are holiday outfits to get, gifts to buy, and food items to purchase which will more than likely exceed your normal monthly budget. However, the holidays shouldn’t mean that you have to go broke. There are several ways, other than fighting the Black Friday mob and taking title loans in AZ, that allow you to enjoy the holidays you want at a price you can afford. A few easy ways to make sure you stay on budget and save money this holiday season include:
Shop Online
Shopping online is one of the easiest and quickest ways to save money. Sure, there is no greater shopping satisfaction than shopping in a department store, but paying department store prices can quickly deplete your holiday budget. By shopping online, you can avoid dealing with Black Friday while still getting some great sales prices. In fact, most items can be purchased for as much as 50 to 75 percent off retail store prices.
Consider Breaking Tradition
Do you come from a family where everyone buys everyone a gift? The price of doing this, especially if nieces, nephews, and grandchildren are involved, can quickly add up. Instead of buying a gift for everyone during your typical extended family exchange, see if drawing names will work. This way everyone is able to get a gift, but no one has to break the bank shopping for everyone in the family.
Ask for Help
If you are the host for most traditional gatherings, there is a good chance that you are also fitting a majority of the bills for the groceries involved in feeding all those loved ones who show up on your door. Instead of taking on the cost of cooking by yourself, ask everyone attending to bring a side dish, dessert, or beverage themselves. Not only will this keep your costs low, but it will also reduce your stress and allow others to share some of their favorite dishes.
Create a Budget
If you don’t create a budget for your holiday spending, there is a good chance that you will rack up your credit card debt before you can even this about it. To keep yourself from overspending be sure that you set a sensible budget that includes all the expenses you intend to incur including food, travel, and gifts.
Make a List and Check it Twice
Last minute gifts that you pick up for loved ones simply because you know “they would just love to have it” is a great way to destroy your budget. Before you even begin shopping, you need to create a list for everyone you intend to buy a gift for, and then you need to write down exactly what you intend to buy for them. Once you scratch them off your list, you are no longer allowed to buy anything for them. Adhering to your list will help you stay in budget, and will help you make sure that everyone gets a gift before you run out of money.
The holiday season is a time of cheer, and one that is meant to be enjoyed with family and friends. However, you don’t have to spread yourself too thin simply to make the holidays enjoyable for everyone else. Be sure to remain mindful of your own budget. This way you will be able to enjoy the holidays without having to worry about paying them off well into the New Year.

We’ve got some great Cyber Monday tips on Adaptu. Check them out here: https://www.adaptu.com/community/money-management/blog/2011/11/22/where-to-shop-on-cyber-monday
The websites you can use to shop through are awesome too. I love the ones where you get cashback for shopping….like http://www.shopathome.com. I definitely recommend it. The only downside is that you have to earn 20$ in order to cash it. But if you shop online a lot it’s worth it. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
