The other day I was logged into my Amazon account to request a return for an item that had arrived damaged. It was the first time I ever had to return anything to Amazon which is a testament to their service.
Anyway, while I was browsing to the specific order number to request the return I realized I could go back in time and view my entire order history. Here’s a few things I found interesting:
My first Amazon order was placed way back on August 23, 2000. I had purchased a software package with a bunch of games for my PC. I remember most of the games were a disappointment (Beast Wars) but Worms 2 was really fun!
The total amount I’ve spent on Amazon is $2703.59! Damn! They must love me.
I’ve placed a total of 63 orders.
The average order size was $42.91.
The smallest order was $16.97 for a cd collection I bought for my girlfriend (now wife).
The largest order was $229.99 for a digital camera.
I buy a lot of books through Amazon, and some hard to find dvds and cds. I find it cheaper to order from amazon with free shipping than to go to the mall or Barnes and Noble and pay full price. Plus some items you can get gently used for a huge discount.
A lot of my orders are in November and December…I dread going anywhere near a store during holiday season.
A few of the orders were for things I could have lived without or disappointed me. But most of them were for books or other items that I really enjoyed or learned from.

I’m scared to even look at our Amazon total. I’ve used it heavily for all Christmases since 1998 and any books or movies we actually buy that aren’t significantly cheaper on Half.com. If you put Amazon with Ebay and their Half.com, we’ve probably have spent thousands. I’ll look when I get home…
LOL you might be shocked when you see the grand total! Maybe you’ll beat me? haha
Okay, my grand total for Amazon is $1508.42 since 2001. Not as bad as I thought. The most expensive single item was a $111 box of Magic: The Gathering cards I bought for my husband in 2009.
Apparently I get all of my electronics through Ebay and Walmart.com.

Okay, make that $1543.42…yeah, I know, I’m an addict. But it’s a great graduation present for hubby.

If the shipping wasn’t terrible to Australia my total would be alot worse. It’s ok if you buy a lot but it’s still pretty expensive

Wow, that seems like a lot of money, but taken over time… it makes sense.
I wonder if display total purchases like that is a good marketing scheme? If I saw a high balance that I spent at Amazon, I think I would try to spend less…
Interesting reveal!
I had to dig around and tally up the total myself, so it’s not like they’re rubbing it in your face. But I love Amazon and won’t be leaving anytime soon. I just wish they’d allow affiliates to use their own links to make purchases!
That was a lot actually but try to analyze it, I thing all are such an amazing and worthy purchases. It is not merciful I guess to indulge our self with things that is sure to bring joy and contentment at some point. The simplicity of life are not often based on how frugal we may live but how deep the appreciation of what life’s happiness is.
Wow, Mike. I wish you’d come on over to my site before you make any of those purchases at Amazon and enter what you’re going to buy in my Amazon search box so I could get a bitty cut of everything you buy there.
If not me, hopefully you’re using SOMEONE’S affiliate link before all your purchases!! I always go through an affiliate link before I shop at Amazon so that someone gets some credit for my purchase. That’s a lot of money to have spent at Amazon! I buy there quite often myself. I’m including this post in my Yakezie roundup tomorrow.
I didn’t used to do that, but I do now. I’ll make sure to help you at at some point.
Cool feature; I also didn’t realize Amazon let you see all that history (you would think it would make people STOP and think about their next purchase–lol).
I like doing long-term analysis like that because it’s really eye-popping. Back in college, I remember trying to figure out how much I spent on eating out over 4 years, and I’m pretty sure I hit 5 figures. Ouch. You can bet that changed my habits.
Yea, eating out can definitely add up quickly. Especially if you’re young and single/dating every weekend. Of course once you get married and have kids there are more mouths to feed!
Wow, that was an eye opener. Amazon must really like me. It took a while to go through everything and total it up in Excel. I’ve got 80-some purchases dating back to October 1997 when I was in college for a little over $6,800. And from the contents of the orders, I really like DVDs, CDs, computer books, and Christmas gifts.
Wow! You’ve got me beat for sure! Thanks for sharing your totals with everyone.
You got me interested in seeing my Amazon total. Since 2006, I have spent $11,281.59! I knew I spent a lot of money there, but I didn’t think it was that much… lol

Wow! They must really love you haha
I just tallied mine up. Since 2005,I have spent $7,116.62! Wow, I knew it would be alot but I didn’t know that I spent that much. The thing that occurred to me was that online shopping is just too convenient. I saw that some of my purchases were spontaneous and just plan dumb, to never be used again. Time to open up a sellers account
Mine came up to $12,028.96 for 140 orders since 2002. Not counting additional payments like the prime membership. Least expensive order was a book for 5.28, most expensive order was my girlfriend’s engagement ring for $2,321.01… go figure.
Since May 2010 i have spent a total of $19,745.98 man i am addicted to amazon i love it…………………. well that total was brought up thanks to a nikon D3X bundle package which i needed but it totaled $12,695.00
