Never Stop Learning!

by Mike

One of my better qualities that I inherited from my father was the love of learning.  My dad wasn’t a highly educated man, but he was always looking to learn something new.  I remember when I was just a kid he was sitting in his chair listening to a cassette on his tape player…it was an audio lesson on how to learn Morse code.

Since my father was never in the military or interested in radios or any other hobby that would require the knowledge of Morse code, I couldn’t imagine why he was bothering to learn it.  But he simply wanted to challenge his mind and learn something new.

I think there’s something to be said for keeping your brain active and challenging yourself to learn something new.  Right now I’m trying to learn how to use the graphic software GIMP.  I also made “learn Italian” one of my goals for 2011.

Obviously you don’t have to learn how to speak a new language…you can pick whatever interests you.  Learn how to play the guitar, or how to build a bookshelf, or how to make beef jerky…it’s up to you!

Never stop learning!

Your brain is a muscle just like the rest of your body. If you do not stimulate or exercise it, you lose it.

I agree that it’s important to keep flexing that brain muscle. Like anything else in our bodies, use it or lose it… and I think it can help improve your life as well, as you’ll have an increased base of knowledge to draw upon.
