Am I really willing to walk away from SMT after all the hard work I’ve put into it? Let me explain what has happened and then you’ll understand why I might do just that.
This may sound a little hard to believe, but a few days ago I was contacted by a delegate inside the Nigerian government. They have actually been looking for me for some time and they were quite relieved to have found me.
It seems that around 72 years ago a Nigerian woman had an illegitimate child with an American man who was traveling in her country. Apparently that man was my grandfather’s older brother!
The child was orphaned as a young boy and grew up in extreme poverty. But through hard work and a few lucky breaks he managed to rise to prominence and become a powerful man in Nigeria. He also amassed a small fortune for himself.
Unfortunately he was never able to have any children and so he when he died there were no heirs to inherit his estate. I can’t give you too many details yet, but between you and me the estate is worth in excess of $20,000,000!
Now there are still some details that need to be worked out. The Nigerian minister is waiting for approval to disburse the funds and there is some kind of Monetary Release Fee that I have to pay, but after that they’ll be able to transfer the money right into my bank account!
So with a windfall of over $20 million headed my way, I’m not sure I’ll have time to keep up with this blog. I’m going to spend some time traveling and living the good life. But I think I’ll keep the blog anyway…I enjoy it too much to give it up now.
It should only be a few more days before the transfer is completed, I’ll post again with an update. Keep your fingers crossed!

lol…don’t we all wish! I actually met somebody that fell for this scam at a health center once. Couldn’t believe it, but then again, these phishing/spam attacks we’rent widly known back then. Looking forward to your follow up post with the point you’re making.
Yea, it really is a shame that many people have been ripped off by scams like this. There is a part two coming soon.
Congrats on the $20 million man! U can earn 4% in a 7 yr CD at USAA, so that’s $800,000/yr in interest income.
That’s good enough for you to live the high life right?
Cheers,
Sam

$800K a year…I think I could get by on that.
Hey – we must be related! I’ve had a few relatives I never knew existed make fortunes in Nigeria. Maybe we should consider migrating.
Ha ha ha ha!!! I was contacted by NIgeria, a German dying millionaire and won the lottery all in the same day!
Did you actually email the scammers back for the hell of it? This will make you laugh…. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/3887493.stm

Wow Forest, that’s one hell of a day!
I actually have seen that site where they turn the tables on the scammers. It’s hilarious!
That is epic!
For you link Forest US citizens alone are conned out of some $200m.
Wow, no wonder they keep it up!!!
Good twist, and very funny.
It’s still a big business for the scammers! Lot’s of money to be made ripping people off.
Don’t even waste your time responding to these comments Mike, you have it made!
It’s too bad that you didn’t get to know your grandfather’s older brother a little sooner so you could have accessed some of this cash before his death. Think of all the trips you could have gone on to visit him in Nigeria!
Enjoy your new-found wealth. We will all be excited to see your healthy contribution to the Yakezie Scholarship fund.

Drat, you get all of the luck!
At the rate I’m going, I’ll never inherit over 20 million. Perhaps I’m not looking hard enough! I bet if I open about 10 more email accounts, I’m bound to have someone contact me about my slice of the pie!
Anyway Congratulations, and don’t take any wooden nickets!
Dang, I had a few great uncles in Nigeria die on me, too, but I never responded to the government’s e-mails. I haven’t heard from them in a long time now. I think all my uncles must have died by now. It is your turn. Lucky you!

I remember years back when a coworker received an email notifiying him that he won the “Lottreij”(or something similar), and if he provided his account information, he would get over $1 million USD.
He had never received an email like this, and at first was questioning if it might be real. This was a smart, well-liked, level-headed guy too.
After a group of us heartily laughed off the email and teased him a bit, he relented and saw the light. It was funny for a while though, that he thought he may have won the “Lottreij”

I guess you’re in a very envious position!
I suggest you enjoy yourself while you’re at it.
Since your economic situation is not good because you lost your job and all, ask your contact to wire you some money for short term support, he should also pay the release fee and in return you will share 1% of your new wealth!
It’s a good deal if you ask me…
There were a story a few years ago about how someone took this and actually made the Nigerian scammer make a tattoo and even send him (the “victim”) some cards and money!
Too bad I lost the link.
